Racing: For the Notebook: A weekly list of horses to follow
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.BUCKELIGHT: running on and challenging for the lead when blundering away a winning opportunity by toppling over at the second last fence in the race won by New Ghost at Windsor on Saturday. An ordinary novice chase looks his for the taking. (T Forster)
FATHER HAYES: just failed to get up in a Southwell handicap on Friday on his first outing for his new yard. Landed a colossal gamble at Sandown two years ago and seems sure to be well placed by his new connections. (Mrs M Reveley)
FLORIDA SKY: made short work of some modest rivals when coming home 20 lengths clear in a novice chase at Taunton on Friday. Can justify his trainer's high opinion of him now he appears to be free of the sickness which has marred the stable's season. (J Upson)
LOCHORE: came from a long way behind to finish third to Sir Norman Holt in a limited stakes race over a mile at Lingfield on Wednesday. He showed enough enthusiasm to suggest he can pick up a similar contest in the near future. (R Ingram)
