Racing: For the Notebook
A weekly list of horses to follow
BARON FERDINAND: Kempton's Chertsey Lock Stakes usually throws up some useful performers and this son of the Kentucky Derby winner Ferdinand out of a half-sister to Shirley Heights looks the sort to progress after finishing a close third to another smart debutante in Pembroke in this year's renewal. (R Charlton).
JONSALAN: after several promising runs he appreciated a step up to a mile on his latest appearance in a Warwick nursery. He dwelt in the stalls but finished very fast, only just failing to catch Express Mariecurie. Can go one better next time. (W Carter)
SOOTY SWIFT: well supported in the market for the competitive juvenile event won by Athens Belle at Kempton on Friday, she cut out the running before fading into fourth. That was her first run and as a daughter of Akarad she will improve over trips in excess of this seven furlongs. (C Brittain).
