Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Josh Gifford will field two to take him on and Kim Bailey will have the champion jockey on his side, but The Fellow is a very firm favourite to win his second successive King George VI Chase at Kempton Park on Boxing Day.

Ladbrokes cut Francois Doumen's seven-year-old to 4-5 over the weekend following sustained support, while Coral and William Hill also reacted to market interest after 11 runners were declared at the five-day stage.

Gifford intends saddling both Bradbury Star and Deep Sensation and believes he has the best chance of dethroning The Fellow. 'If anything can beat him, I think it could be one of mine,' he said yesterday. 'Of the two, Bradbury Star is probably more likely to give The Fellow a race because he's certain to get the trip,' he said. 'Whereas we just don't know if Deep Sensation stays. But he has certainly got the class. How many others in the field could go with Waterloo Boy over two miles?'

Gifford has asked Richard Dunwoody to take the mount on whichever his stable jockey, Declan Murphy, rejects and Kim Bailey will employ Peter Scudamore on Kings Fountain, as Anthony Tory rides Docklands Express.

BEST ODDS: 11-10 The Fellow (Hills), 5-1 Bradbury Star (Ladbrokes), 10-1 Docklands Express (Coral), Kings Fountain (Ladbrokes), 10-1 Deep Sensation (Hills & Ladbrokes), 12-1 others

Today's racing is dependent on morning inspections. At Lingfield, where the going is heavy, officials will look at the course at 7am and more rain would place the fixture in severe jeopardy. Edinburgh, where the problem is frost, is also to be inspected at 7am. Milder weather is forecast.
