Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

STEVE CAUTHEN is to put his race-riding experience to use from the safety of the commentary box. He will work as a television analyst during the ABC network coverage of the American Triple Crown races.

'I hope to give some insight into the minds of jockeys at the highest level, and the pressures of it,' he said. 'I've done a lot of interviews, but from the other end of the mike. I've always felt there was a need for someone with my experience to do this sort of job.'

Cauthen, 32 and British based for 13 years, has been at home in Walton, Kentucky, since declining an offer to continue riding for Sheikh Mohammed at a reduced salary.

He has yet to rule out a return to racing and is discussing an offer to ride in Hong Kong. 'I haven't really decided on my future or if and where I'll be riding.'
