Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.PETER CHAPPLE-HYAM, who leaves his position as trainer to Robert Sangster's string at Manton at the end of this season, is to decide this weekend whether to take up a training post in Hong Kong.
He is believed to have been offered the opportunity by the Chinese territory's Jockey Club to replace Patrick Biancone, banned from training in the former colony for 10 months after two of his horses tested positive for prohibited substances.
Chapple-Hyam confirmed yesterday: "I've spoken to them this morning and I've been offered the job. I will just have to see now and have a think about it but I haven't got much time. I will speak to them tomorrow and tell them my decision."
Since being informed by Sangster that his contract was to be terminated, Chapple-Hyam has been examining various options as to where he could continue training, including looking at Jackdaws Castle, the base of David Nicholson.
n Distant Music runs in the Group One Dewhurst Stakes at over seven furlongs Newmarket next month. The son of Distant View, trained by Barry Hills, was most impressive when winning the Group Two Champagne Stakes over seven furlongs at the Doncaster St Leger meeting, showing an impressive turn of foot to beat the Aidan O'Brien-trained Rossini by a comfortable two and a half lengths.
