Racing: Browne's appeal dismissed

DERMOT BROWNE, the former trainer and champion amateur jump jockey, has lost his appeal against a 10-year disqualification.

Browne was warned off last month after being found guilty of six breaches of the Rules of Racing, including selling information to a bookmaker. The Jockey Club's Disciplinary Review Committee considered his case on Thursday, but because neither Browne nor his legal representatives attended the hearing the result was not announced until yesterday.

The Committee confirmed the decision of the original hearing and also decided that the appeal was sufficiently lacking in substance for Browne's pounds 500 deposit to be forfeited.

Peter Niven misses the ride on the exciting novice chaser Cab On Target at Doncaster today after a crashing fall yesterday. Mary Reveley is considering withdrawing the horse because of the unavailability of her stable jockey who injured his left arm in a fall from Reveley's Flight Hill. He left the course with his arm in a sling to attend Doncaster Royal Infirmary for x-rays.
