Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Some Picture will not only earn his connections pounds 50,000 if he wins the Greyhound Derby at Wimbledon tonight but the new superstar of greyhound racing could also launch the sport into positive orbit.

Admittedly, little changed in the sport when Shanless Slippy, possibly the best greyhound to bounce off the sandtrack since Ballyregan Bob, sped to success in the race 12 months ago. But Some Picture again gives the industry something to cling to.

Trained by the softly spoken Charlie Lister, of Nottingham, tonight's 1-2 favourite is unbeaten in competition, having already pocketed the Eclipse Stakes and the Scottish Derby.

Inside the favourite is the Oaks winner, Annies Bullet. Her tendency to make a beeline for the rails at trap release looks sure to hinder He Knows and Stows Val.

Here's Andy looks the most likely source of an upset if he can gain a clear run, while the local dog, Charpaidon (backed at 2,000-1), needs more luck than a winning entry in the Lottery to land the event.
