From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The England captain Phil de Glanville last night relinquished the Bath captaincy duties for Sunday's Heineken European Cup tie at Pontypridd. De Glanville, the caretaker captain during Bath's opening Allied Dunbar Premiership matches while Andy Nicol recovered from hamstring trouble, hands over to the full-back, Jon Callard, who has recovered from a groin injury.

The Welsh international lock Steve Moore has joined Allied Dunbar Premiership Two club Moseley on a two-year contract from Swansea.

Glanmor Griffiths, the Welsh Rugby Union treasurer, has been elected as the new chairman of the Union. The 57-year-old retired regional corporate bank manager takes over from Vernon Pugh as chairman of the WRU's general committee. He will continue as the union's treasurer.

The Irish Rugby Football Union yesterday revealed that the 35 members of the Irish national squad have been issued with contracts that could earn them up to pounds 90,000 per year.
