Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Scotland have suffered a further setback for their two women's internationals with France in Amiens this weekend. Their two regular strikers, Susan MacDonald and Rhona Simpson, were already ruled out of the trip through injury and illness. The injured Linda MacKay now joins them.

Her replacement, Gillian Soutar, could capitalise on the unfortunate situation. Soutar is one of five players in contention for the two remaining places in the Scottish squad of 16 for the World Cup qualifying tournament in Zimbabwe in August.

Soutar played in the preliminary round in Port of Spain, Trinidad, in October and, if she figures on the scoresheet in Amiens, she will move into contention for inclusion.

Alison Denholm and Nikki Kleppang will also hope to catch the eye of Mike Gilbert, the coach, while the other three, Jane Burley, Gail Crawford and Claire Lampard, will trust they did enough in the matches with England and the USA to keep their names to the fore.

SCOTLAND SQUAD: S Lawrie (Bracknell), T Robb, G Soutar, A Denholm (all Western Kick Photopoint), C Corcoran, H Walker, F MacInnes, J Jack, L Burton, A Grant, D Renilson, V Neil, S Gilmour (all Edinburgh), S Fraser, P Robertson (capt), N Kleppang (all Bonagrass Grove).
