Your support makes all the difference.A huge former furniture factory in east London is to be transformed into a £2 million, temporary "super club" for the 2012 Olympics, after planning permission was granted – to the upset of several neighbours.
The 3,750-capacity venue at Swan Wharf, only 100 yards across the River Lea from the Olympic Stadium, will open despite opposition from local residents who fear that they will be given sleepless nights for the duration of the Games.
The club owners behind Mayfair's Mahiki, popular with Prince Harry and Pippa Middleton, will manage the new venue, which will also host a hospitality centre for Olympic guests. The club will be open for only two months during the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The night club will stay open until 4am every night and because of poor public transport links will be served by a regular river taxi.
Michelle Gabriel, chair of the Association of Ironworks Residents, said the views of local people, who wanted the venue to close earlier, had been largely ignored in the planning process.
