Great Britain's Jazmin Carlin has won a silver medal in the women's 800 metres freestyle at the Rio Olympics.

She was beaten to gold by America's Katie Ledecky who broke her own world record to take the top spot on the podum.

Ledecky clocked in a time of 8.04.79 minutes - a whole 12 seconds ahead of Britain's Carlin.

The Briton was involved in a three-way fight for the second spot for much of the race but eventually emerged on top.

It was her second silver of the Games having finished in the same position in the 400m freestyle earlier in the week.

Hungary's Boglarka Kapas takes home the bronze after she finished in 8:16.37 minutes.
