Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Winner of nine Paralympic golds, Great Britain's Lee Pearson will be hoping for more, and competes in the IB Grade mixed individual freestyle Championship Test, beginning at Greenwich Park at 14.15. A gold in this event, which sees the riders perform to a musical backing track, will take Pearson past Dave Roberts and Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson as the all-time top British Paralympic gold medallist.
SASCHA KINDRED, SWIMMING
Kindred, winner of six Paralympic golds, has not lost in the SM6 200m individual medley in a major championship for an incredible 14 years. He'll face stiff competition from European gold medallist Yevheniy Bohodayko and Beijing bronze medallist Xu Qing of China, starting with the heats at the Aquatics Centre at 09.30 and finishing with the final at 17.30.
MICKEY BUSHELL, ATHLETICS
After silver in the T53 100m in Beijing, the man nicknamed "The Bush" will hope to go one better in his home country. Holder of the world-record at this level and British records in T53 200, 400 and 800 metres, the 22-year-old from Telford will be challenged by Brazilian Ariosvaldo Fernandes Silva, with heats at 10.15 and final at 19.20 in the Olympic Stadium.
JAMES ANDERSON, SWIMMING
The six-time gold medallist from Scotland did not win gold in Beijing, but looks to make the most of London appearance today by competing in the 100m S2 freestyle.
