TV gold: Your guide to Frantic Friday
Armchair fans rejoice! It's the busiest day of the Games. Grab your remote and get ready...
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Get ready for "frantic Friday", the busiest day of the Games, with 24 of the 26 sports in action – that's 141 heats, finals, sculls and repechages all competing for your viewing attention. In previous years, the omnivorous sports fan might have despaired, but not in the brave new digital world. With judicious use of the BBC's multi-channel streams, a mobile screen and a tablet – and perhaps a carefully-prepared selection of TV snacks – Olympic addicts need not miss a thing.
The day begins with Jessica Ennis launching her heptathlon challenge in the Olympic Stadium. The challenge here will be to keep one eye on Ennis' shot-put feats, while the women's GB football team battles Canada for a place in the semi-final and Rebecca Adlington goes for 800m swimming glory. Others will be engrossed by the GB women's basketball team completing their group games against France and the Velodrome exploits of Team GB's cyclists. With so much Team GB activity to cover, the BBC will show uninterrupted live tennis coverage, including Andy Murray's tennis semi-final clash, at Wimbledon on "HD Stream 2" between midday and 8pm. Women's judo will run on stream 5 from 9.20am to 12.45pm. The equestrian team dressage event at Greenwich has been allocated Stream 22 from 10.55am until 3.40pm.
But the digitally-enabled can flick between 24 live streams, found behind the Red Button, which provide uninterrupted feeds from every event and have allowed the curious to sample events considered "minority sports". The channels are also available on satellite, Freeview, cable and online. Roger Mosey, the BBC's Director of London 2012, has invited viewers to "make your own Olympic channel" on frantic Friday. The Independent's minute-by-minute guide should allow you to do just that – if, of course, you don't have the inconvenience of work to do.
