Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.London 2012 Olympic hopeful Peter Wilson smashed a world record on his way to victory in the ISSF Shotgun World Cup in Tucson, Arizona.
The 25-year-old won the double trap men's final with a new record score of 198 hits out of 200 targets.
The previous record of 196 was set by China's Hu Binyuan in 2009.
Wilson said: "This is pretty special, I'm really looking forward to the Olympics in London and the home environment, it's an exciting prospect.
"I feel oddly relaxed considering the feat I've just achieved. I've had great support from the team around me and through the lottery-funded world-class programme at British Shooting."
Tim Newenham, the programme manager for the Olympic Performance Group, said: "Peter's performance in Arizona was outstanding.
"It's the culmination of thousands of hours of training, both physical and mental and the whole team can be very proud to have played a part in supporting Peter's work towards his world record.
"It's a great position to be going into the Olympic Games, where home crowd support for British shooters can play such an important role in boosting their performances."
