Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

ROUND-UP

Martin Offiah, the Great Britain winger, became only the second player to score 200 tries in the First Division as Wigan went back to the top of the Stones Bitter Championship with a 20-12 win at Wakefield yesterday.

The champions were heading for a surprise defeat when they trailed 12- 4 at half-time, but Offiah struck in the 57th minute to take his try tally for the season to 38.

Seven minutes later, Wigan took the lead when Henry Paul touched down and Mick Cassidy scored a third just before the end.

The most exciting finish of the day came at Wilderspool, where an injury- time try from substitute Andy Bennett earned Warrington a 14-14 draw and preserved their unbeaten home record.

n Cumbria police are investigating an incident at the end of yesterday's match between Workington Town and Featherstone Rovers in which a player from the beaten Feathstone side is alleged to have struck a disabled girl supporter as he left the pitch.
