Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Baron Ferdinand presided over his six opponents at Ayr yesterday to win the Group Three Tennents Scottish Classic and boost the remarkable strike rate of Roger Charlton, his trainer. The consistent five-year-old was given a fine ride by Kevin Darley to earn a length verdict over fellow Southern raider Captain Horatius.
The 100-30 favourite was a first representative in the pounds 33,000 added prize over a mile and a quarter for Charlton's Beckhampton stable, which has now enjoyed three victories from just four runners at Ayr since 1991.
Darley went on to complete a double on 11-10 favourite Keep Your Distance. He sent Peter Savill's horse ahead 300 yards from home in the West Sound Radio Claiming Stakes to claim an emphatic two-lengths verdict over Anorak.
In the final race the apprentice Terry Finn celebrated his 23rd birthday a day late when enjoying a runaway victory on the Lynda Ramsden-trained top-weight Kemo Sabo in the Western House Restaurant Handicap for the first success of his career.
