Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Round-up

After their side were in trouble at 17 for 2, Nottinghamshire's Paul Johnson and Graeme Archer made centuries and put on exactly 200 against Derbyshire in the Axa Life League at Trent Bridge yesterday.

Johnson was eventually caught behind for 117, off Matthew Cassar, having hit 11 fours and a six in his 92-ball innings but Archer, making his first Sunday century, remained unbeaten on 104. The Derbyshire captain, Dean Jones, resorted to eight different bowlers including himself as Nottinghamshire compiled 280 for 6.

Derbyshire's Chris Adams also hit a century and threatened to reach the tough target after an opening stand of 117 with Jones. Adams went on to make 121, including eight fours and three sixes in just 90 balls, but Derbyshire were 32 runs short.

A century from Jason Gallian and five wickets from Peter Martin ensured Lancashire stay top of the Sunday League, after a 75-run win over Northamptonshire at Old Trafford.

Gallian's hundred came up in 111 balls, containing nine fours and a six as Lancashire finished on 241 for 6. Martin ripped through the Northamptonshire top order with the only resistance coming from Rob Bailey's 67.

Stuart Law hit his customary half-century as Essex wasted little time in recording a five-wicket win over Gloucestershire to keep them level on points with Lancashire. Law (58) saw his team most of the way home with 13 overs to spare at Gloucester.

A blistering 157 not out from Alistair Brown, England's forgotten man of one-day cricket, gave Surrey a five-wicket win over Leicestershire at Grace Road.

Michael Vaughan (66) and Darren Lehmann (76) helped Yorkshire to a comfortable victory over Somerset. The pair put on 134 for the second wicket, and Peter Hartley (48no), promoted in the order, and Richard Blakey (36no) finished the job.

Gladstone Small produced a Sunday League career-best 5 for 26 to bowl Warwickshire to a resounding 108-run win over Middlesex at Edgbaston.

Durham finally got off the mark in the Sunday League, coasting to a seven- wicket win at Chester-le-Street. Martin Speight hit 61 and David Boon finished with 49 not out.
