From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Kawasaki rider Tom Sykes made a triumphant return to the British Superbike Championship with a double victory at Brands Hatch.

The Yorkshireman took a break from the World Superbike series to dominate yesterday's races after coming fifth in Saturday's opening race won by Alastair Seeley aboard the Relentless Suzuki.

Sykes twice beat off the determined Ryuichi Kiyonari of Honda to take the spoils while the Japanese moved into the lead of the riders' championship standings.

"It's good to be back, good to race here, and to be out front in this race," said Sykes. "We made big changes to the bike after Saturday's race, so fair play to the team who worked so hard. This victory is a thank-you to them. It was hard and challenging but I loved it. [That] has helped us so much – now for the rest of our season in the world championship. It was the boost that we all wanted."
