The fate of the 2012 championship title was finally decided in the last race of the season at the Brazilian Grand Prix. Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel claimed a championship treble after beating Ferrari's Fernando Alonso in a dramatic finale.

Vettel became the youngest ever triple world champion. Vettel also became the first driver to win his first three titles in consecutive fashion.

Vettel joins a prestigious list of champions who have won more than three - Juan Manuel Fangio (5), Alain Prost (4), Jack Brabham (3), Jackie Stewart (3), Niki Lauda (3), Nelson Piquet (3),Ayrton Senna (3) - including his hero Michael Schumacher who has seven world titles.
