Windless's fellow veteran, the American Shawn Jamison, added 19 points as Lions turned the game with a strong second half after trailing 52-47 at half-time.
Kevin Griffin regained the lead for the Lions at 64-63 and added another long-range hit in a 7-0 run as the Lions opened a 71-63 lead.
The defending champions, Newcastle Eagles, put their poor start to the campaign behind them with a double-win weekend. The Eagles trounced Worcester Wolves 87-62 on Friday night, then snatched an overtime thriller 85-78 at Leicester Riders on Saturday, after the home team had lost a seven-point lead in the final 43 seconds of regulation time, with Eagles' Jeremy Hyatt scoring 10 seconds from time to force the extra period on 73-73. Eagles' player-coach, Fab Flournoy, then scored seven points in his side's final salvo.
Guildford Heat moved up to second in the table with their fourth win in five, beating Leicester 86-76 last night.
