Your support makes all the difference.David and Godfrey Jones claimed their second win of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship season this weekend, the brothers taking command of the ninth round during the second half of the race. Their Preci-Spark Ascari held station during the first half behind the Momo Mosler, which Daniel Brown catapulted into the lead away from pole position.
Brown's lead at the pit stops was five seconds, but his team-mate for the weekend, Martin Short, found his hopes of maintaining that advantage disappearing along with the Mosler's engine coolant. "The water temperature rose significantly in the pit stop," said Brown, "and then the car lost a large amount of water as it left the pits. The engine was running far too hot, causing a significant loss of power, and that really hurt us. Martin had to back right off." Within seven laps the Ascari swept past for the lead through the Esses.
In round 10 everything went the way of the Rosso Verde Ferrari of Allan Simonsen and Hector Lester, which led from pole position to chequered flag. Alas for the on-road victors, they fell foul of officialdom post-race when it was discovered that Lester had not been wearing the correct safety clothing. Thus it was the Invitation Class Ginetta of Piers Johnson and Olly Bryant which collected the win, with the Jones brothers second overall to collect maximum points in GT3 to further extend their championship lead.
