From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Lewis Hamilton gets his world title defence under way in Melbourne on Sunday and is a man under pressure. But as far as he is concerned the pressure is all from himself.

Having won the 2008 season in dramatic style the World Champion isn't satisfied and wants to win it again in 2009.

It is going to be a tough season repeating his stunning drive for Vodafone McLaren Mercedes last year, especially if the results of early testing are taken into account.

The new McLaren seems to be suffering from the raft of rule changes for the 2009 season and have found themselves at the bottom of the time sheets during testing. Hamilton admitted it is going to be a long hard campaign but believes he can be better, faster, sharper and more consistent than last year.

Watch the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Teamcast below to find out more about how Lewis has been preparing for the coming season.
