Hamilton faces FIA judgement
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Lewis Hamilton and the beleaguered McLaren team will learn today whether the FIA is going to take any further action when the World Motor Sport Council meets in Paris to discuss lies Hamilton and the team told the stewards of the Australian Grand Prix last month.
Since then, Hamilton has made a public apology in Malaysia, the McLaren sporting director Davy Ryan was sacked, and former team principal Ron Dennis was obliged by the company to stand down.
In Bahrain last weekend the team principal Martin Whitmarsh admitted that he had written to the FIA, and the letter had been leaked to the media ahead of today's hearing. Whitmarsh could not be drawn on the letter's contents, but said: "Anyone who has looked at the relationship between McLaren and the FIA over the last few years would have to conclude it would be healthier for all of us to have a more positive relationship than perhaps we have in the past."
The word is that, after much horse-trading between the FIA president Max Mosley and his advisers, no further action will be imposed.
