Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The German Grand Prix could be scrubbed from this year's Formula One calendar after Hockenheim reportedly turned down the chance to stage the race.
Georg Seiler, managing director of the circuit, said Hockenheim would not be putting on the race which is due to take place on July 19.
Seiler told German newspaper Bild: "We have no more hope that Formula One will take place here.
"Time has expired for organising a race here. The quality of the event would have suffered."
Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone said in January the race would take place for a second successive season at Hockenheim, ending a previous arrangement that had seen it shared with the Nurburgring, with the circuits staging it in alternating years.
Bild reported that Hockenheim ruled out staging the race over issues including the sale of tickets, which had not yet begun. It also said that crowds had shrunk since the glory days of Michael Schumacher, despite the recent successes of German drivers Sebastian Vettel and Nico Rosberg.
