From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Nico Rosberg has hit back at his teammate Lewis Hamilton following his jibe about the German's upbringing.

Rosberg described himself as "100% German" after Hamilton made a joke following his own British Grand Prix win.

Hamilton was asked following his victory on Sunday, how valuable it would be if he won Rosberg's home Grand Prix in Germany on 20th July.

His grinning response was: “To be honest, Nico has never actually been in Germany, so it’s not really his home race.”

He went on to say that when the two karted together, Rosberg used to stand next to a flag of Monaco, having been raised there since the age of four months.

In response to Hamilton's comments, Rosberg said: “Anyone can judge however they want.”

When asked if he was as German as Hamilton is British, Rosberg said: “Not really, because I didn’t grow up in Germany, but I consider myself 100% German.”

However he did say he was looking forward to driving in front of his home fans.

“It’ll be great, driving the Silver Arrow – a dominant Silver Arrow – it will be special. I hope I get a lot of support, and I’m looking forward to it.

“But even the British crowd at Silverstone were great. OK, they supported Lewis, but I got a lot of respect, and that was really nice to see.

“In some ways even I could enjoy the great atmosphere they brought to the race track at the weekend.”
