Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The Australian Cameron Donald, on a Suzuki, ended the four-year reign of John McGuinness to win Saturday's Superbike TT Race on the Isle of Man. McGuinness surrendered his grip on the race when he was forced out after lap two, while another fancied rider, Guy Martin, also exited with mechanical problems. New Zealand's Bruce Anstey and the Ulsterman Adrian Archibald were second and third respectively.

Elsewhere, Valentino Rossi won his seventh consecutive Italian MotoGP yesterday, his third straight race of the season, and extended his lead at the top of the points table, writes Gary James from Mugello.

The seven-times world champion led for 19 of the 23 laps. The reigning world champion Casey Stoner finished second, 2.2 seconds adrift, with Spain's Dani Pedrosa in third, nearly five seconds behind Rossi.

Britain's MotoGP debutant James Toseland recorded his third sixth place of the season, despite having only one dry practice session to prepare his Tech 3 Yamaha for a track on which he had not raced.

"It was the hardest race I've had this year," he said. "But to be that strong with such a limited amount of track time was really good."
