Motor racing: Tasty double helping for leader Menu
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Alain Menu took his Williams- run Renault Laguna to another pair of British Touring Car Championship victories at Silverstone yesterday, writes Gwyn Dolphin.
"It may have looked easy, but it wasn't. I backed off a little too much in the first race but I knew what I had to do," said the Swiss driver, who has won all four rounds so far.
Menu cantered home in the first race, only having to speed up when Rickard Rydell brought his Volvo S40 on to the leader's tail. Rydell also challenged in the second race, but was thwarted again and now trails Menu (second- race average-lap speed 95.86mph) by 25 points.
Menu's team-mate, Jason Plato, had an eventful afternoon. He was on pole for the first race but stalled on the grid and finished 10th. In the second race he came home third, only to be disqualified for tangling with Kelvin Burt's Volvo. Renault's appeal, however, fell on sympathetic ears and Plato was reinstated.
