The Swiss driver had the race in his pocket as early as the third lap when he passed the Ford Mondeo of Paul Radisich, who trailed by 2sec at the finish. In coming second, though, the New Zealander retained his overall lead in the championship.
He enjoys a 36-point advantage over Gabriele Tarquini, whose Alfa Romeo team withdrew him from this event in protest at their exclusion from the results of two previous races. Patrick Watts was third and the top British finisher in a Peugeot 405.
