Mark Blundell is close to signing for the French Ligier Formula One team next season. The 26-year-old Royston-based driver said: 'The deal is 99 per cent sorted out. There are just a couple of things that cannot be tied up because of other obligations for 1992, notably my testing contract with McLaren.' Blundell already has experience of the Renault engine and semi-automatic gearbox to be used by Ligier next season, having been Williams's test driver in 1990.
