Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Official razzmatazz comes to town on Sunday when the Washington Redskins and the San Francisco 49ers contest the seventh American Bowl at Wembley Stadium, kicking off at 6pm. The Redskins, winners of last season's Super Bowl XXVI who have not played overseas, and the 49ers are in their third week of pre-season practice and Sunday's game should reflect the extra polish. The legendary Joe Montana, the 49ers quarterback, returns at the age of 36 to lead his team after the elbow problems that dogged him last year. His opposite number, the talented Mark Rypien, had no such problems, finishing second in the quarterback rankings.

How to get there: London Underground to Wembley Park (Metropolitan or Jubilee Lines) or Wembley Central (Bakerloo). British rail to Wembley Central. The stadium is situated on the North Circular road. Tickets: pounds 15, pounds 20 and pounds 25. Also available on day. Wembley box office: 081-900 1234.
