From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

DAVE HADFIELD
West Hull and Thatto Heath, the two amateur sides to reach the fourth round of the Silk Cut Challenge Cup - the first time two amateurs have achieved that feat in the same season - had mixed luck in the draw at Headingley last night.
West Hull, who beat Highfield on Sunday, are at home to York while Thatto Heath, from St Helens, convincing winners at Chorley in the third round, are at Rochdale Hornets.
The holders, Wigan, start their bid for a ninth successive Challenge Cup at home against the Second Division side, Bramley, whilst last year's beaten finalists, Leeds, are at Swinton.
The outstanding tie of the round, however, is Castleford against St Helens, beaten finalists in the Regal Trophy.
Super League games, starting in March, could be played with unlimited substitutions. Australia is keen to introduce a system allowing any number of changes from a bench of four.
The referee John Connolly is to be removed from tomorrow's St Helens v London Broncos game. Connolly mis-counted the tackles in Halifax's game against Warrington on Sunday, allowing Halifax to score a crucial try on the seventh tackle.
SILK CUT CHALLENGE CUP Fourth-round draw: Keighley v Barrow, Bradford v Batley, Workington v Widnes, West Hull v York, Hull v Hunslet, Wigan v Bramley, Carlisle v Wakefield, Hull KR v Leigh, Swinton v Leeds, Castleford v St Helens, Salford v Featherstone, Huddersfield v Sheffield, Oldham v Warrington, Whitehaven v Halifax, Dewsbury v London Broncos, Rochdale v Thatto Heath. (Ties to be played 27 or 28 January).
