From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

ROUND-UP

Warwickshire's new director of coaching, Phil Neale, had mixed feelings about his side's innings and 58 runs defeat by the England A team in the Tetley Bitter Shield match at Edgbaston.

Neale, who has succeeded Warwickshire's treble-winning coach, Bob Woolmer, at Edgbaston, was in charge of the A team against his new county, having led the England side on a successful winter tour of India.

Neale helped to mastermind only Warwickshire's second firstclass defeat in two seasons - now turns his attention to coaching his new charges. "I think Warwickshire can learn something from how the A team were able to screw the opposition into the ground once they got on top," he said. "Warwickshire were 101 for 1 in their first innings and nothing seemed to be happening, but England A stuck at it and never gave up. That's something that happened with Warwickshire last season."

England A required only six deliveries to secure victory yesterday. Yorkshire's slow left-arm bowler, Richard Stemp, took a simple return catch to dismiss Allan Donald with the last ball of his first over of the day to dismiss Warwickshire for 205.
