After winning the world title in Stuttgart earlier this year, Christie said that next season was likely to be his last. However, after winning the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award on Sunday night, the sprinter had apparently changed his mind, saying: 'I'm not counting out the Atlanta Games at all.

'I'd be 36 by then, but every year I seem to get better.' Christie also said that he believed he could find the two- hundredths of a second he needs to break Carl Lewis's world record of 9.86sec.

'I've always been more interested in titles than records, but, as I've done everything else, the world record would be nice - and I've got to say that it has been at the back of my mind in training this winter.'
