From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Nottinghamshire will be hoping that Chris Lewis passes a fitness test this morning before their daunting Benson and Hedges Cup quarter- final tie against Lancashire at Old Trafford. The England all-rounder has been out for weeks with a hip problem and the result of a specialist's scan will determine whether he returns today.

In the zonal matches Lancashire, still unbeaten in all competitions this season, amassed 353 for 7 against Nottinghamshire on the same ground - a record for the competition between two first-class counties.

Worcestershire will also be looking for revenge against Yorkshire at Headingley after losing their only one-day match of the season against them in the zonal stages. But last season's finalists have a doubt over whether their Australian all-rounder, Tom Moody, will be able to perform his stint with the ball.

Yorkshire, without their captain, Martyn Moxon (cracked thumb), are awaiting a late check on all-rounder Paul Grayson, who has been ill.

Kent have lost seven of their past 10 meetings with Middlesex, whom they face at Canterbury, while Gloucestershire meet Somerset in a local derby at Bristol, with Jack Russell looking to improve on the season's good deeds to date. "We've still got a lot to do; we've not achieved anything yet, but we are going in the right direction," the Gloucestershire captain said.
