Your support makes all the difference.Paul Kelleway's stable believe they have a long-term replacement for their former Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe candidate Pelder, who has been retired due to the recurrence of an old leg injury.
Pelder entered the Arc picture when he won the Group One Prix Ganay at Longchamp in May on only his second start for the yard. But he has not run since his second in the Prix d'Ispahan later that month.
The trainer's wife, Gill, said yesterday: "Pelder has not broken down but an old leg injury has flared up. Two independent vets have looked at him and both said that there was only a 50-50 chance he would stand training for the Arc."
But Mrs Kelleway is confident that the yard has a ready-made replacement for honours next year in the two-year-old Zelzelah, whom she rides in work. The filly made a good impression with a winning debut in the Donnington Castle Stakes at Newbury last month.
"I rode Swiss Maid, Risk Me and Madam Gay at home," Mrs Kelleway said, "but I would say that Zelzelah is in a league of her own. She could be the one for the Arc next year as a mile and a half would be her trip. She has put on weight and got stronger since Newbury and goes for the Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh next month."
