Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Just eight horses were withdrawn at yesterday's declaration stage for the Lincoln Handicap at Doncaster on Saturday, leaving the likelihood of large-scale disappointment for those wanting to run.

A total of 63 horses remain in the race, but the safety limit is 24. Those unable to get a run are eligible for the consolation Spring Mile on Friday.

Kayvee was the only surprise withdrawal. The Tote Festival Handicap runner- up had been quoted at 25-1 for the first big contest of the Flat season.

The market leaders, Alamein and New Century, are guaranteed a run, but the 1993 winner, High Premium, needs two horses to be withdrawn to gain a place in the line-up.

n Mary Reveley and the conditional rider Gary Cahill had their punishments for breaking the non-triers' rule at Sedgefield last Tuesday with Supreme Target reduced by the Jockey Club's disciplinary committee yesterday. Reveley's fine was cut from pounds 1,000 to pounds 600, and Cahill's ban reduced from seven days to five days.
