Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Nottinghamshire moved into second place in the Sunday League, behind Surrey on run-rate, with a comfortable six-wicket victory against Leicestershire. Next week they play Yorkshire in a winner-may-take-all at Scarborough. Whoever wins that encounter will take the title if Glamorgan beat Surrey.

The Nottinghamshire captain, Paul Johnson, hit three sixes and six fours in an unbeaten 85 off 61 deliveries to guide his side to their seventh win in eight games.

Set 195 in 33 overs after three interruptions they made light work of it, ending with 16 balls to spare.

Somerset's fifth Sunday win in succession keeps alive their hopes of finishing in the prize money. Marcus Trescothick's unbeaten 61 off 48 deliveries helped Somerset to 221 for 5 and Dean Jones' 81 off 104 balls looked to have Derbyshire cruising with 10 overs left but wickets tumbled and they finished 12 runs short.

Steve James and David Hemp put together a match-winning stand of 136 for the second wicket to enable Glamorgan to defeat Hampshire at Southampton. James hit 91 and Hemp was 64 not out when Glamorgan clinched victory by seven wickets with seven balls to spare.
