Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

European round-up

Paul Ince, the England midfield player, scored one of Internazionale's two goals as the Italian side cruised into last eight of the Uefa Cup with a 7-1 aggregate win after a 2-0 win over Boavista in their second-leg match in Oporto yesterday.

Youri Djorkaeff scored the first from the penalty after 12 minutes before Ince scored from close range after Ivan Zamorano's shot had been saved.

Brondby, the Danish side, join Internazionale in the last eight after produced an amazing turnaround, wiping out Karlsruhe's 3-1 victory in Denmark with a 5-0 success in Germany last night.

Karlsruhe seemed to be coasting until just before half-time. Ruben Bagger fired the Danes ahead in the 42nd minute and then Dan Eggen made it 2- 0 and 3-3 overall. This put Brondby ahead on away goals, but the Germans then conceded three more - two from Peter Moller and one by Marc Wilmont.

Another upset was Tenerife's 4-2 win over Feyenoord in Rotterdam. The sides drew 0-0 in the Canary Islands two weeks ago.
