Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

For the racegoer the prospect of Lammtarra capturing the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp on Sunday, 1 October, to achieve a feat last accomplished by Mill Reef in 1971, namely winning the Derby, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes and the Arc, is an exciting thought to relish.

For the traveller, Horse Racing Abroad, of Haywards Heath, specialises in trips to Longchamp, including transfer to the track and admission and this year has even more flexible options by Eurostar train, air and self- drive. Day trips are available as are weekend breaks to take in Saturday's racing card, which includes five Group races.

The course is in the Bois de Boulogne, north-west Paris, between Port Maillot and Port Dauphine on the Peripherique, the ring-road. Take the Vincennes-La Defense line on the Metro or Reseau Express Regionale (RER) to Port Maillot. The course is a short bus or taxi ride. Admission is FFr70 (pounds 9).
