Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.A career-best return of 4 for 22 from Adam Hollioake inspired Surrey to a thrilling one-run victory over Yorkshire at The Oval yesterday.
Hollioake, who produced a superb spell of 3 for 1 in 12 balls, helped dismiss Yorkshire for 217 - two runs adrift of the 219 needed to win. Yorkshire began the day on 74 for 1 - just 145 short of victory.
Superb individual performances from Tom Moody of Worcestershire and Derbyshire's Devon Malcolm were not quite enough to generate a result at Kidderminster.
Worcestershire, chasing 517 from their overnight position of 27 for 1, eventually batted through to close on 467 for 9.
However, a magnificent 168 from Moody, the captain, almost guided them to the highest winning total in a fourth innings in the Championship, while Malcolm took 5 for 65.
John Childs, the slow left-armer, steered Essex to their fifth Championship victory of the season against Glamorgan at Swansea.
Childs took 5 for 60 as the home side, chasing 328 to win, slumped from 78 for 2 at lunch to 180 all out shortly after tea.
