Hockey: Souyave stands by youth
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Maggie Souyave, the England coach, has basically kept faith in the youngsters she blooded in Vancouver and Berlin for the Six Nations Korea Telecom Cup starting in Seoul today.
The round-robin event, which includes Australia, South Korea, Argentina, Canada and the Netherlands, will be a severe test and the final opportunity for Souyave to sort out her squad for the World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe in Harare in August.
The young hopefuls have performed well with their attacking style, but the worrying factor is that the squad still lack a goalscorer and penetration in the circle.
"We get a good percentage of possession but we do not put the ball in the net often enough," Souyave said. The answer could be to give 17-year- old Lucilla Wright an all-out striking role.
The only two changes to the Champions' Trophy squad are the recall of Slough's Mandy Nicholls and Leicester's 19-year-old Carol Voss, who were unavailable for the Berlin tournament. England open their programme tomorrow against Canada and meet the Netherlands on Monday.
ENGLAND SQUAD: M Davies (capt), J Sixsmith (both Sutton Coldfield), K Brown, M Nicholls, J Smith, L Copeland (all Slough), K Bowden, P Miller, J Mould, C Voss (all Leicester), T Cullen, C Reid (both Hightown), D Marston- Smith (Clifton), J Empson (Canterbury), L Wright (Olton), H Rose (University of Massachusetts).
