Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

SOUTHGATE yesterday failed to take over the leadership of the PizzaExpress National League First Division, the chance having arisen following Hounslow's goalless draw against Indian Gymkhana on Saturday, writes Bill Colwill.

Southgate could only manage a 1-1 draw away to lowly Trojans. Rupert Welch gave the London club a 10th-minute lead but Trojans equalised through Wayne Shepherd.

Stuart Avery got off his sick bed to score the only goal in Havant's 1-0 win at Welton, which moves them back into contention, just one point behind the leaders. Teddington beat St Albans 2-0 to stay fourth, while East Grinstead's 5-3 win against Canterbury moved the Sussex side into fifth place.

In Saturday's women's National League, Balsam Leicester nudged themselves into the Premier Division leadership with a 1-0 win over Clifton. Slough, the overnight leaders, could only manage a goalless draw at home to Ipswich.

England's return to the indoor arena in Cologne was judged by their manager, John Hurst, as a success despite losing twice to German club sides on Saturday and 8-5 to Switzerland yesterday. Bob Crutchley scored five of England's total of 15 goals.
