Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

DAVID WHITAKER, the England coach, has been forced to make eight changes to his squad for this weekend's two games against the Dutch world champions, writes Bill Colwill from The Hague.

Jon Potter, one of four Hounslow players who were not available for the Irish Centenary Trophy in Dublin two weeks ago, makes a welcome return to the squad for the first time since the Olympics but the absence of Rob Hill is a blow.

Hill has endured problems down on his Somerset farm following the recent rains and has asked to be released. Since being recalled before the last Olympics, Hill has scored 23 of his side's 48 goals in 24 games, including both in the 2-2 draw with the Dutch in Dublin.

Nick Thompson, the Old Loughtonians striker missing from an England shirt for the past two years, returns after a series of impressive performances for his club and is thought by many to be the natural successor to Sean Kerly.

ENGLAND SQUAD (v the Netherlands, today and tomorrow, Wassenaar and Amsterdam): D Luckes (East Grinstead), J Shaw (capt), R Welch (both Southgate), R Garcia (Havant), J Potter, P Bolland, R Crutchley, J Barrow (all Hounslow), J Halls, N Thompson (both Old Loughtonians), K Takher (Cannock), J Laslett, P McGuire (Teddington), D Woods, A Humphrey (both Welton), A Degun (Barford Tigers).
