Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Dave Hacker, Canterbury's Welsh international, summed up the day's surprise result - the thrashing of Premier leaders Cannock 6-1 - by saying: "We played well and took our chances in spite of Cannock having the lion's share of possession. Our defence, in particular captain Simon Triggs in goal, had a great game and we hit them on the counter attack."
Paul Wicken and Stuart Humphries each scored twice for Canterbury with David Mathews and Hacker completing the rout. Bobby Crutchley claimed Cannock's 61st-minute consolation.
Southgate threw away their lead to go down 5-2 at Reading and with it lost the chance of taking over the leadership from Cannock.
In the relegation battle at Guildford, the home side shrugged off two early goals from Doncaster's Robin Benford to win 4-3, with Ian Jennings and Danny Hall each getting a brace.
Chris Ambridge's hat-trick in Havant's 3-0 win away at Bromley keeps them ahead of Surbiton on goal difference at the top of Division One.
In Saturday's women's National League, Slough, 5-2 winners against Ipswich, opened up a gap of five points at the top of the Premier Division, maintaining their maximum points record.
Woking also kept their 100 per cent record intact with a 2-1 win against West Witney, staying three points clear at the top of Division Two. With Canterbury drawing 1-1 with Chelmsford in Division One, Leicester - 5-1 winners against Bracknell with Sarah Blanks and Justine Williams each scoring twice - have a three-point lead.
