Woods' fine form alarms Montgomerie

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Colin Montgomerie yesterday confessed Tiger Woods's 100 per cent performance in last week's Presidents Cup will make it more difficult for Europe to regain the Ryder Cup next year.
The world No 1 won five out of five matches and holed the winning putt as the US beat the Rest Of The World team 19-14. The fact that Woods beat YE Yang, his USPGA conqueror, in Sunday's singles only highlighted his contribution.
"Tiger seems to have this team game down to a tee now as well as the individual game," said Montgomerie. "There's never been a European who has won five out of five in the Ryder Cup, so that proves what a feat it is.
"It will be difficult enough to win without Tiger in that sort of form. I've said it before, but it will make it a better win for us if we can regain the Ryder Cup with Tiger Woods in it."
