Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Michelle Wie was last night named as one of America’s two wildcards to face Europe in this month’s Solheim Cup. The 19-year old, who has yet to win a professional tournament, was given the news after a final-round 69 saw her finish 11th in the Ricoh Women’s British Open.

Beth Daniel, the US captain, also announced the 49-year-old Juli Inkster, a seven-time major winner, as a pick for the female game’s equivalent of the Ryder Cup. “I am so honoured, so thrilled,” said Wie, who will make her debut in Chicago. “I will do my best not to let Beth down.”

*Tiger Woods won his 69th PGA Tour victory yesterday at the Buick Open in Michigan. The world number one turned a one shot 54-hole lead into a three-stroke victory over Roland Thatcher, John Senden and Greg Chalmers at Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club in Grand Blanc to land his fourth title of the year and his third at the Buick Open.
