US private equity firm KSL Capital Partners, which owns many golf resorts in America, has bought the famous 550-acre estate for a reported £70 million.
The Warwickshire resort has changed hands several times in recent years. The De Vere hotels group sold it to Irish businessman Sean Quinn but it was then taken over by its banks, who sold it to KSL.
There are hopes for The Belfry to host the Ryder Cup again if the contest returns to England.
