Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

New Zealand's Greg Turner won the Australian PGA Championship after a matchplay battle with Craig Parry evaporated at the second-last hole at the Victoria Golf Club, Melbourne.
Turner finished on 10 under par - 278 - after rounds of 68, 68, 70 and 72, two ahead of Queenslander Shane Tait while Parry tied for third at seven-under 281 with Robert Allenby and Nick O'Hern.
Turner said of the final day's 18 holes: "It was a tough day, I didn't feel particularly comfortable at any stage with my game so when you're in that circumstance it's going to be a battle.
"I actually made some better swings at the end again, as with yesterday and then it sort of fell for me."
Turner began the final round three ahead of Parry but by the fifth hole they were level at eight under.
The New Zealander broke away to a four-shot lead at the 10th and seemed set to cruise home before Parry birdied the 13th and 14th to grab the lead. There was a two-shot swing at the par-four 15th when Turner picked up a shot and Parry dropped one but a double-bogey seven at the 17th sunk the Australian.
