Interesting facts about this year’s event...

The 143rd Open Championship will be at Royal Liverpool (Hoylake) for the 12th time in history, with the last tournament held there being in 2006.

That year, Tiger Woods finished off his second consecutive Open Championship victory with a two-shot win over Chris DiMarco.

The last back-to-back Open champion was Padraig Harrington in 2007 and 2008.

Last year, Phil Mickelson made four birdies in the last six holes, scoring a three shot victory over Henrik Stenson to secure his fifth major championship. It was third straight British Open in which the winner was 40 years or older.
