Now I know better. We have both felt powerful pangs of depression while putting our heads to pillows in the halls of St Andrews University.
For myself I got over it by remembering that I was there for just a week of the Open, that the old building was surrounded by quite a number of world-class pubs, and that a seven-minute walk would take me to a golf course so haunting it brought tears to Arnie Palmer's eyes whenever he remembered that he was playing it for the last time.
William should get his Uncle Andy to teach him golf. Who knows, life could become just about bearable. Certainly his tee times wouldn't be too bad.
